Sidney William Theodore Osborne was found in the River Nene on 27 November 1941.

He was pulled out of the river near to Abington Mills.

His body was thought to have been in the water for about three weeks.

When he was pulled out of the water, a handkerchief was found tied around his mouth and nose.

His landlady said that she last saw him on 7 November 1941 when he left in the evening for work. He was a night watchman at the United Counties bus station in Derngate.

A man that was in charge of the night shift at the bus station said that Sidney Osborne signed on for duty on 7 November 1941 but that when he returned to the bus station in the early hours of the following morning he was not there. He said that when he saw him the previous night, he had been wearing his watch and chain.

His landlady said that the following morning someone from the bus station called and that when she went to look in his room she found that his bed had not been slept in. His landlady said that when Sidney Osborne went out he had been wearing a watch and had had several notes in his wallet.

It was heard that his flask of tea was untouched.

When he was pulled out of the river it was found that his watch and wallet were missing.

An open verdict was returned.

He was a former police constable and had been lodging at 5 Hazelwood Road in Northampton.
