Charles George Andrews

Age: 56

Sex: male

Date: 6 Feb 1941

Place: Canal, The Ham, Brentford

Charles George Andrews was found in a canal at The Ham in Brentford with head injuries.

He was found in the canal on the morning of 6 February 1941.

The police said that when they pulled him out, he had head injuries, but noted that there was a good deal of barge traffic up and down the canal.

He was identified by an identity card that was found on his body.

His post-mortem stated that he had been dead for several weeks and that his cause of death was drowning. The doctor that examined his body said that he thought that the injuries to his head had been caused after his death.

Charles Andrews had lived at 9 Bradmore Lane in Hammersmith.

His wife, who identified his body, said that Charles Andrews had been a house decorator by trade and that she had last seen him in June 1940. She added that he had been in the Springfield Mental Hospital from where he had been discharged in September 1940 and that since then he had been living in common lodging houses. She said that as far as she knew that there was no history of insanity in Charles Andrews's family.

An open verdict of found drowned was returned at his inquest.
