Cecil Lawrence

Age: 19

Sex: male

Date: 13 Jun 1941

Place: Crewkern to Yeovil Road, Haselbury Plucknett

Cecil Lawrence was run over by a vehicle that didn't stop.

His body was found late at night.

He was a soldier and lived in Crewkerne.

He had been out to Haselbury Plucknett to see his brother-in-law. His brother-in-law said that when he left their house, he had been quite sober. He said that it would have taken Cecil Lawrence about a quarter of an hour to walk to the spot where he was knocked down.

The police said that they had made extensive inquiries to find the vehicle that had knocked him down but without success.

The coroner returned an open verdict stating that it was not possible to say whether his death was by misadventure or other means.

He added that he had only contempt for anyone who knocked someone down and left them lying there and hoped that the culprit would have the affair on his conscience.
