Ivy Helen Janman

Ivy Helen Janman died from an illegal operation.

She was the wife of a soldier.

She died in St. Mary's Hospital on 3 August 1941 from an injury caused by the use of an instrument in an attempt to procure an abortion.

Her husband, who was a private in the Pioneer Corp, said that they had a 13-year-old child and that when he last saw Ivy Janman in June 1941 she didn't tell him that she was pregnant. He said that the first time that she mentioned it to him was when she was in St. Mary's Hospital on 3 August 1941.

He added that Ivy Janman suffered from rheumatism in her hands.

The pathologist said that he thought that  Ivy Janman had been pregnant for about four or five months. He said that her death was due to haemorrhage consequent on an injury caused by an instrument used in an attempt to procure an abortion and that her death had been accelerated by an infection of the injury.

The police said that they had interviewed a number of people but had been unable to trace anyone connected with her death.
