Gladys Parker

Gladys Parker was stabbed in her home in Chard, Somerset.

It was thought that she had disturbed a burglar.

She was taken to hospital where she died seven weeks later from a blood clot on the lung and deep vein thrombosis in the leg.

It was said that she had been battered by a thief for her purse containing a few pence. She was left senseless in a pool of blood in her bedroom.

It was said that she had been kicked so viciously about the face that none of her family could recognise her.

It was also noted that her internal injuries were so bad that the doctors could not operate.

A teenager was arrested in relation to her murder but no charges are known.

Six men were also arrested after the attack but later released without charge.

Gladys Parker had been a widow.
