The body of a newly born female child was found wrapped up in a brown paper parcel on a wall that sloped down from the promenade at Southport to North Marine Lake.
A doctor that examined the child said that it had breathed for a short while and had been strangled. He noted that the child also had a fractured skull.
He noted that he did not think that the child's birth had taken place under normal conditions.
A verdict of murder against some person or person's unknown was returned.
