Margaret Hartley died following an illegal operation.
At her inquest, a verdict of murder against some person or persons unknown was returned.
She had been taken to Sharoe Green Hospital on 27 October 1942 and died the following day on 28 October 1942.
It was said that her death was due to the use of an instrument.
When she arrived, she had been suffering from an incomplete abortion and was extremely ill.
Her death was due to peritonitis and septicaemia following a septic abortion caused by the use of the instrument.
The doctor said that he thought that it was improbable that Margaret Hartley could have caused her injuries herself, although he added that it was not impossible.
Her husband said that Margaret Hartley had told him nothing.
