Albert William Newman

Albert William Newman was found shot on Norrington Common.

He was a war reserve constable and had been on duty at the time.

A police revolver was found near to his body.

An open verdict was returned at his inquest after it was heard that the gunshot had been fired from too close a range for it to have been fired by anyone else. However, it was heard that he had no worries and was married with a family.

It was suggested that he might have had a brainstorm and had shot himself on a sudden impulse.

It was heard that there was no indication that there had been anyone else near him at the time of the shooting.

Albert Newman was found shot by a member of the Home Guard who heard the shot shortly after he left him.

The member of the Home Guard said that Albert Newman had told him that he was going to make a cup of tea and said that when he found him, he was near a water tap and his revolver and a kettle were close by.
