John Henry Wiggins was knocked down by a motorcar that had been driving along the Fosse Way in the direction of Moreton-in-Marsh on Friday 13 February 1942 and died in hospital the following Sunday, 15 February 1942.
It was thought that he had been knocked over between 8.30pm and 9pm. He was found in the roadway at about 10.15pm by two soldiers that had been passing in a lorry and taken to Moreton Cottage Hospital where he later died on the Sunday morning.
He had received severe head injuries and a fractured leg.
A locking door handle was found at the scene which was thought to have come from a 1938 Model 8 or 10 horse-power Ford car.
John Wiggins was a widower and had come to live with two daughters at The Lodge in Little Barrow from London in 1940.
