Donald Yates Grant

Age: 25

Sex: male

Date: 22 Sep 1943

Place: Guards Depot, Caterham, Surrey

Donald Yates Grant died from a fractured skull after he was hit over the head with a rifle butt by another soldier.

The other soldier said that he had been cleaning his rifle when he had raised it to throw it over to the next bed when he hit Donald Grant in the head with the butt. He said that there had been no quarrel and that he had had no intention of hitting Donald Grant with it or throwing it at him.

An open verdict was returned when the foreman of the jury stated that there was insufficient evidence to show exactly what happened.

Donald Grant was from Sale in Cheshire.
