Richard Ballinger

Richard Ballinger was knocked down on the Great West Road by a vehicle that didn't stop.

He was knocked down by the vehicle on the Great West Road in a black-out in December 1942, but after a period at home he was admitted to West Middlesex Hospital suffering from an abscess in the groin, where he stayed for three weeks, making a full recovery. However, on 15 May 1943 he was sent back to the hospital on his doctor’s advice and later died.

At his inquest, the pathologist said that he could find no trace of injury but said that his brain was congested and that there was evidence of pneumonia which he said was the cause of death following a collection of pus that was set up by his fall.

It had been a dark and wet night and Richard Ballinger said that he had been crossing the road when something hit him, however, he said that he didn't see what it was.

An open verdict was returned.

He had lived at 48 Orchard Road in Brentford and was a retired painter.

He was buried in Ealing Cemetery on 26 May 1943.
