The body of a child was found in a cesspit in Stolford.
The body was found by a man on 1 July 1943 at Green Shutters in Stolford in a cesspit. The man said that he had been employed in emptying the cesspit when he saw some carpet and that when he took it out he saw the head and shoulders of a child in it.
At the inquest, a woman said that she had been the mother of the child, but the coroner intimated that he would not ask her anything.
A professor that carried out the autopsy said that he was not able to say whether the child had been born alive as there were no organs left.
The coroner returned an open verdict, stating that there was insufficient evidence to show if the child had been born alive.
