Baby

Age: 0

Sex: female

Date: 10 Jun 1943

Place: West Country RAF Camp

The body of a newly born child was found in an air-raid shelter at a West Country RAF camp.

The body was found by an aircraftman who was cleaning out the shelter.

The post-mortem revealed that the child had breathed for a considerable amount of time. The doctor that examined the child said that it was a full-term female and that there were no marks of violence or injury on its body.

He said that whilst he could not state the definitive cause of death, it might well have been intention at birth.

At the conclusion of the inquest the coroner said that there was insufficient evidence to show the cause of death or her age.
