Date: 13 May 2017

Place: Hertford Road, Enfield, London

Joao Gomes was stabbed in Hertford Road in Enfield following a party at about 10.30pm on Saturday 13 May 2017.

A 17-year-old man was to be tried for his murder in 2020, having been charged in January 2020, but nothing more is known.

It was said that there had been about 100 people at the party and that after violence flared up it had spilled out into the street where Joao Gomes was stabbed on the steps of the Dharma Mandir Hindu temple.

Two other youths were also found seriously injured in Palmers Lane nearby.

They were all taken to hospital but Joao Gomes died shortly after at 11.41pm the same day.

The party was said to have been a private party but to have raged out of control after it was detailed on the mobile phone application Snapchat. It was noted that many of the youths at the party were young, some as young as 12-years-old.

Four teenagers were arrested shortly after on suspicion of murder, they were:

  • 14-year-old male, arrested 23 May 2017.
  • 14-year-old male, arrested 29 June 2017.
  • 15-year-old male, arrested 29 June 2017.
  • 16-year-old male, arrested 29 June 2017.

In January 2020 the 17-year-old male was charged with Joao Gomes's murder, but nothing more is known and it is not known whether he was one of the two 14-year-olds initially arrested in 2017. He was also charged with violent disorder, grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a blade.

Three other youths were also charged with conspiracy to rob and violent disorder.

On September 2020 a 20-year-old man was also sent for trial on conspiracy to rob Joao Gomes moments before he was murdered.
