Place: Moseley Street, Digbeth, Birmingham

Abraham Ismail was stabbed in Highgate, Digbeth during a fight between two groups of Asian and Somali men.

The two groups had attacked each other with metal bars, sticks and knives. The fight had started after a man was punched through the open window of his car. The man later returned with some friends and attacked the other group outside.

The attack was said to have lasted less than a minute, but ersulted in Abraham Ismail being stabbed.

Nine people were convicted of lesser offences such as violent disorder, but no one was convicted of his murder.

He was found on the corner of Moseley Street and Rea Street near the Raxo Shisha lounge, also known as the Emperor lounge, at about 3.30am on Saturday 17 December 2016.

He had been stabbed in the chest and back and died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. His cause of death was a stab wound to the heart.

Twentythree people were arrested in connection with his murder on suspicion of violent disorder and nine were later convicted for their involvement, but no one was charged with his murder and the police said that the murder investigation was still live. The police said, 'There is no evidence to suggest the people sentenced inflicted the fatal blow on Ibrahim Ismail'. The police released CCTV images of a number of men that they were trying to trace in December 2017 but it is not known which of them, if any, were people later convicted of lesser offences in November 2018.

Abraham Ismail had been from Afrin near Aleppo in Syria and had come to the United Kingdom as a refugee and was studying in Solihull and working at some Shisha lounges in the area. He had been studying administration and economics at the University of Aleppo but came to the UK after the civil war broke out in Syria.
