Isaac McMahon was found dead in the River Aire near Neville Street in Leeds on the Saturday afternoon, 5 February 1944 after going missing on 7 or 8 January 1944.
He was a soldier stationed near Leeds and had got a pass on 7 January 1944 which didn't expire until later on 8 January 1944 and had also drawn out £4 10s.
However, nothing more was seen of him after he got his pass and his money. He had told no one where he was going.
When he was found he had only 3d in his pockets.
He was described as a good soldier and it was heard that there was no reason why he should have wanted to take his life.
The coroner said that there was no evidence to show whether he had fallen into the river accidently or not.
