William Dundonald Killie was found injured on dock quay on 8 April 1944 and was taken to hospital where he later died.
He was a ship’s cook and had lived in Pine Grove, Waterworks Street in Bootle.
He had been fire watching at the docks and had left his vessel to go to a public house. He later returned along and at about 10.30pm he was found lying on the quay near a gangway, unconscious and frothing at the mouth without his hat or coat.
He later died in hospital from a fractured skull.
The police said that they made extensive enquiries and were satisfied that there was no foul play.
An open verdict was returned.
