Bridget White

Age: 27

Sex: female

Date: 29 Sep 1944

Place: Cirencester Cricklade Road, Cirencester, Wiltshire

Bridget White was knocked over by a van as she walked along the Cirencester to Cricklade Road on the Friday night, 29 September 1944.

She was a corporal in the WAAF, serving as a cook and came from County Antrim in Ireland.

She had been walking back from Cirencester to her camp with three other members of the WAAF, walking two/three abreast on the grass verge, with Bridget White on the outside, facing the oncoming traffic. The van was described as travelling at a fast speed and driving on the wrong side of the road.

After hitting her, the van drove off without slackening speed and disappeared.

The van that hit her was described as a type of utility service vehicle and a broadcast appealing for information about it or anything else about the incident was made by the BBC, but without response.

An open verdict was returned.
