Ronald Arthur Bentley

Age: 20

Sex: male

Date: 28 Nov 1944

Place: Rossett, Wrexham

Ronald Arthur Bentley was found injured by the side of the road on 26 November 1944 and was taken to Winwick Emergency Hospital where he later died two days later on 28 November 1944.

He was a Royal Marine Commando and had been walking back with two other Royal Marine Commandos from Chester to Wrexham after they had missed the last train back on 26 November 1944.

His two friends said that had all started to walk back together after missing their train but that they lost Ronald Bentley in the dark and couldn't find him and ended up getting a lift back to Wrexham in a car.

Ronald Bentley was found the next day by a cyclist from Newton in Gresford in the gutter and he took him to Rossett Police Station from where he was taken to Winwick Emergency Hospital.

The doctor said that Ronald Bentley only had a small wound on his head but that he had died from an injury to the brain.

At his inquest the coroner returned an open verdict after stating that there might be several explanations for how he had come by his injuries but observing that there was no evidence to show them how.
