James Oswald

Age: 30

Sex: male

Date: 2 Feb 1944

Place: Kirkcaldy Kinghorn Road

James Oswald died after arriving home from a dance with head injuries.

He was a shipyard plater and had lived at 25 Bridgeton and had attended a dance at Burntisland.

After the dance he had left to walk home and was believed to have been accompanied up to Kinghorn, after which he continued his walk home alone.

When he arrived home on the Saturday morning at about 4am he was in a dazed condition, suffering from head and other injuries and later lapsed into unconsciousness.

He was taken to Kirkcaldy Hospital where he died on the Wednesday 2 February 1944 without regaining consciousness.

It was noted that another man in a separate incident, Thomas Rennie, had also been to the dance in Burntisland and had also died following his journey home after being found injured by his bicycle on the Kirkcaldy Kinghorn Road and that it was thought possible that Thomas Rennie had cycled into James Oswald, causing both their deaths.

However, it was stated that following James Oswald's death, their deaths were likely to remain an unsolved mystery.
