The body of a newly-born female child was found on the floor of a wash-up cubicle in a ladies’ lavatory in Broad Street, Peterhead on the afternoon of Saturday 29 January 1944.
It had been wrapped up in a new linen bedsheet and was thought to have been placed there during the caretaker's dinner hour.
The caretaker found the parcel after returning from lunch at 3.40pm.
