Thomas Rennie

Age: 19

Sex: male

Date: 22 Jan 1944

Place: Kirkcaldy Kinghorn Road, Kirkcaldy

Thomas Rennie was found injured on the Kirkcaldy to Kinghorn Road in Kirkcaldy and taken to hospital where he died later the same day.

He was found on the Kirkcaldy to Kinghorn Road with head injuries at about 2.50am on the Saturday morning 22 January 1944 next to his bicycle and taken to Kirkcaldy Hospital where he died later that afternoon.

He was an apprentice shipwright and had lived at 30 Cross Street in Kirkaldy and had attended a dance in Burntisland on the evening of Friday 21 January 1944. He had later left the dance to cycle home and was found unconscious in the road at 2.30am on the Saturday morning.

The right handlebar of Thomas Rennie's cycle was broken off and it was thought that Thomas Rennie might have collided with another youth who had been walking home at the time, James Oswald, and who later died from his injuries.

It was noted that the other youth, James Oswald, had been to the same dance. He died following his journey home after receiving head injuries en-route and it was heard that his injuries were consistent with him having been hit by a bicycle.

However, it was stated that following James Oswald's death, their deaths were likely to remain an unsolved mystery.
