Jack King

Age: 36

Sex: male

Date: 23 Nov 1945

Place: Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire

Jack King was found dead on the railway line.

He was last seen when he left the Three Horseshoes public-house in Bradford-on-Avon at 9.50pm on 23 November 1945.

He was found dead the following day lying on the outside of the sleepers, a few inches from the rail.

It was found that his only injuries were a small head wound and some bruising on the right side of his face.

At his inquest, it was questioned whether it was possible that he could have been struck by a train and not flung beyond the sleepers and further postulated that he might otherwise have been placed where he was found.

After his inquest was opened it was adjourned for seven weeks whilst the police made enquiries, but they were unable to account for his movements from after the time he had left the pub and when his inquest was resumed on 39 January 1946 an open verdict was returned.
