John Brady

Age: 39

Sex: male

Date: 31 Oct 1945

Place: Whitehaven to Egremont Road, Cumbria

John Brady was knocked over on the Whitehaven to Egremont Road.

He was found injured on the road on the night of 14 October 1945 and later died.

He was discovered by a man that had been driving along the road. The man said that he saw John Brady lying in the road and in order to avoid hitting him he applied his brakes and swerved and ran over John Brady's ankles.

He said that when he got out to look, he saw that John Brady had a fractured skull and he took him to hospital.

The pathologist that carried out his post-mortem said that he was under the impression that two vehicles had been involved in the accident and said that he thought that in the first place John Brady had probably been thrown to the ground.

However, although the police made exhaustive enquiries, they were unable to trace any vehicles that might have been involved.

An open verdict was returned.

John Brady was a coal miner and had lived in Scott Street, Whitehaven.
