Shawn Hanby was found dead in a maisonette in Broadlea Avenue, Bramley, Leeds on 23 July 1992..

He had been stabbed to death. He died of a stab wound to the chest.

His body was found on the Saturday night, 25 July, but doctors thought that he had been murdered on the Thursday or Friday.

A 41-year-old female prisoner that had been on day release from HMP New Hall in Wakefield was charged with his murder, but the charges were later dropped when no evidence was offered.

The female prisoner had been finishing a six year sentence for manslaughter and theft at the time and had been granted three days home leave but had not returned to New Hall when she was due on Friday 24 July 1992. She had been convicted of manslaughter in December 1989 after she killed a man by stabbing him in the chest.

The maisonette where Shawn Hanby was found had been the former home of the woman's new partner, a 49-year-old man from Scotland. The woman and the man were later found in Glasgow on the night of Thursday 30 July 1992.
