Adeline Fry

Adeline Fry was found drowned in a canal at Pontypridd on 4 February 1916.

A soldier was charged with her murder, but no more details are known.

The soldier had been found in the canal by some canal employees waist deep in the water on the Thursday night. After he was taken out and was in a car he was said to have told the conductor that he had been in the canal trying to rescue a woman. Nothing was known of the fate of Adeline Fry at the time.

However, the following morning, Friday, 4 February 1916, Adeline Fry was found by an employee of the Glamorganshire Canal Company in the canal at Trallwn near to the place where the soldier was found.

Adeline Fry was last seen by a tramway inspector at Gorn Stores Hill going in the direction of Trallwn at 11.30pm and it was noted that her course would have taken her past the spot where her body was later found.

It was said that after the soldier was charged with Adeline Fry's murder he had said, 'Oh, all right then'.

Adeline Fry had been staying at local lodging houses. She was from Rhondda Fach and had been the wife of a labourer who had lived in Regent Street in Ferndale.
