Place: Poulton Road, Carleton

The body of a newly-born femaile child was found wrapped up in a ditch close to Poulton Road in Carleton.

The post-mortem revealed that its death was probably due to want of attention at birth.

When the coroner summed up he said that a crime might have been committed, but that they had no evidence to that effect and then said that the branch of the law in this respect needed ammending as it was no offence to deposit the body of a child in a ditch as had been done.

An open verdict was returned.
