A soldier was found on Stains Road, opposite Horners Farm in Bedford at about 2.45am on 31 December 1915 with head injuries and later died.
A broken starting handle for a motor car was found at the scene and there were two pools of blood and marks in the centre of the road for 15 yards in an easterly direction from where the soldier was found.
The Metropolitan Police issues an appeal to the public for information on the matter.
