Kavan Brissett

Age: 21

Sex: male

Date: 14 Aug 2018

Place: Langsett Walk, Sheffield, South Yorkshire

Kavan Brissett was stabbed in an alley on the night of 14 August 2018 and died four days later in hospital.

He had been involved in a drug deal at the time.

Four people that were involved with the drug deal were later convicted for conspiracy to supply class B drugs but no one was charged with Kavan Brissett's murder.

The police identified two suspects but said that they couldn't find them.

The main suspect, a 29-year-old man from the Broomhall area, was said to have had links to Sheffield, Cardiff and Birmingham. The police said that they also carried out investigations for him in Somalia, however, they said that they had no specific intelligence or information to say exactly where he was.

The police stated that the 29-year-old man knew that he was wanted by the police and was deliberately avoiding them. They said that the man was seen at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on the night of the murder in CCTV footage where he was treated for facial injuries. He returned to the hospital the following day but didn't return again. He was thought to have last been seen about a month later in Cardiff.

Kavan Brissett had been involved in an altercation in the Grammar Street car park in Upperthorpe and was thought to have then staggered into the alleyway.

CCTV footage showed a man running away from the scene soon after.

The men convicted for conspiracy to supply drugs were initially charged with conspiracy to commit robbery but the charge was later reduced. They were convicted on 27 March 2021.

They were (ages as of time of conviction):

  • Male, aged 19, Birch House Avenue, Sheffield, sentenced to 30 weeks imprisonment.
  • Male, aged 41, Queen Mary Rise, Sheffield, sentenced to 36 weeks imprisonment.
  • Male, aged 20, no fixed abode, sentenced to 21 weeks imprisonment suspended for 18 months.
  • Male, aged 20, Stannington Road, Sheffield, sentenced to 38 weeks imprisonment.

The four men had gone to the Grammar Street car park in Upperthorpe together with Kavan Brissett to make the drug deal.
