Sex: female
Date: 1 Jun 1946
Place: Godstone Corner Wood, Sussex
The body of a newly-born female child was found wrapped up in a parcel in a hedge at Godstone Corner Wood.
The body was found by a gamekeeper in the wood where it bordered on the London to Eastbourne Road.
A policeman said that he thought that the parcel might have been thrown over the hedge from a passing vehicle.
A doctor that examined the body said that it weighed 8lbs and that he considered that the child had lived and that he thought that it had been dead for at least a week, or possibly a fortnight, before he had examined it on 1 June 1946. He said that he thought that the child’s death was due to inattention at birth.
An open verdict was returned.
