The police said that a preliminary report by a police doctor suggested that his injury was caused by a blow.
Several Polish seamen were interviewed but no charges were made.
Browns Wharf had been between Weavers Lane and Potters Field but has since been demolished and the area redeveloped along what is know called The Queens Walk.
