James Anthony Sinnott

Age: 39

Sex: male

Date: 23 Apr 1999

Place: Shaw Road Industrial Estate, Speke

James Anthony Sinnott was shot in a garage on the Shaw Road Industrial Estate at about 5.30am on 23 April 1999.

Two men were tried for his murder but acquitted. The two men had been business partners with Tony Sinnott, but it was heard that there had been friction between them and they had wanted him out of the way.

He was shot with a 9mm sub-machine gun, with at least 22 bullets having been fired. He was hit by 18 bullets and was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital where he later died.

The man that shot him threatened other people at the time and then fled in a grey Ford Fiesta XR2i that was later found dumped near Liverpool Airport.

He had been standing in a paint-spray booth at the time.

At the trial, the court heard that Tony Sinnott used to boast about injuring people and had several enemies and was described as unpredictable, violent and feared.

The police described Tony Sinnott as a security consultant. They initially refused to speculate why he had been at the industrial estate so early in the morning.

He had lived in Arklow Drive, Hale Village.

He had three children but separated from his wife. He was an ex-boxer and had won the all-Ireland welterweight title in 1981 and was said to have then come close to winning the British title in 1984 but lost the final eliminator to Terry Marsh who then went on to win the world title.
