Ionut Lazar had been from Romania and was shot two days after arriving in the UK. At the trial it was heard that he had truly been in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was said to have been trying to get to sleep when he was shot.

The police were called out to Askew Road at about 2.40am to find Ionut Lazar unconscious at a residential address, but he died soon after at the scene.

He had been shot in the chest.

At the trial it was submitted that the five men had conspired to rob a drug dealer at gun and knifepoint in Askew Road and that they had afterwards gone back to a flat in Askew Road where there were a number of other people, including Ionut Lazar.
