The body of a newly born female child was found in a bombed convent at the corner of Anlaby Road and South Parade in Hull.

The child was found on 15 November 1947 by two youths wrapped up in a sheet when they went into the convent.

It was noted that the corner of the sheet had been cut off, possibly because it might have had an identification mark on it. However, a table runner was also found with the body, marked 'EK', but inquiries about the initials revealed nothing.

A doctor said that the child had died from exposure and neglect within a few hours of birth. He said that when the child was found that it had been dead for two days.

An open verdict was returned.
