Rose Chase

Age: 43

Sex: female

Date: 3 Apr 1947

Place: Ruislip Road, Greenford, Middlesex

Rose Chase was found dead in her bed with her face lying down between two pillows and an open book beside her.

It was thought that she had died after reading in bed.

Lipstick marks were found on one of the pillows and it was determined that she had died from suffocation.

She had just been divorcing her husband, who lived in Taunton, Somerset, and on the day after her death her husband recieved a telegram from Rose Chases solicitor saying that the decree nisi had been made absolute. However, at the inquest, the coroner said that the decree absolute had been made void following her death as at the time of her death they were still married.

At the inquest, her husband said that Rose Chase would read every night and as she had been found lying in an attitude of sleep on her face, it was presumed that she had been lying on her stomach at the time reading shortly before she died.

The coroner returned a verdict of accidental death and suggested that Rose Chase had been reding for a long time and had become extremely tired and had fallen asleep on her face between the pillows.

It was noted that Rose Chase was found dead by her 76-year-old mother who herself died two days later from a heart attack.
