Charles Cottam

Age: 40

Sex: male

Date: 13 Dec 1947

Place: Parsonage Street, Heaton Norris, Stockport

Charles Cottam was found dead in his kitchen early on Saturday morning 13 December 1947 in what the police described as unusual circumstances.

The police said that his death was from gas poisoning and that a length of tubing was found near his body. However, the police said that they were not satisfied as to his exact cause of death as he had other injuries.

The police interviewed the 30-year-old woman that he had been living with throughout the night of 14 December 1947.

Several of Charles Cottam's organs were sent off for tests along with blood samples and a carpet and an armchair were among articles removed from the house by the police.

Following his inquest on 16 December 1947, the police said that it was extremely unlikely that any charge would be preferred relating to Charles Cottam's death.

Nothing more is known.
