Twin B

Age: 0

Sex: female

Date: 17 Dec 1947

Place: Tan-y-Fynwent, Carmel, Caernarvon

Twin A, Twin B and Baby C were found in a decomposed state at a house, Tan-y-Fynwent, in Carmel on 16 December 1947.

Two of the bodies were mummified. They were discovered by the police when they went there stating that they had reason to believe that a woman there had recently given birth to a child. They said that she first denied it

The 27-year-old woman, who was ex-WAAF, was charged with concealment of birth. She said, 'I didn't consult a doctor or nurse or tell anybody because I didn't want to worry my mother'. The bodies had been found in the barrel and a suitcase in her bedroom.

She said that she had given birth to twins, a boy and a girl, in February 1946 and that when she had got up about half an hour after confinement, she noticed that they were not alive. She said that she then wrapped them up in garments and put them in the wooden barrel in her room.

The third child was said to have been born in November 1947. It was found in a brown paper parcel wrapped up in a shawl and a woman's raincoat in a suitcase. The woman said, 'I decided to do the same with this child as I had with the twins. I did not tell a living soul about it. After the confinement I was in bed for a week and told my mother I had a sore throat and she believed me'.
