Kenneth Griffiths

Age: 26

Sex: male

Date: 4 Sep 1947

Place: Carlton Hill Barracks, Leeds

Kenneth Griffiths died after falling from a lorry that was being driven around in circles in a parade ground.

He was trying to stop it after he was informed about it. It was thought that it was being driven around by kids who were seen to run off.

The incident happened shortly after some cadets had been dismissed from parade. One of the cadets went into the mess to tell Kenneth Griffiths, an officer, that a lorry was being driven around the parade ground in circles.

Kenneth Griffiths and the cadet, who had lived in Villiers Street, Leeds, then ran to the lorry and managed to jump on it. However, they were seen then to fall off and Kenneth Griffiths fractured his skull and received chest injuries. He was taken to the Leeds Infirmary where he died shortly after. The cadet was taken to the Leeds Dispensary and was allowed to go home after treatment for leg bruises.

It was thought that a number of youths had been in the lorry cab and some of them were seen after to run away.

Kenneth Griffiths had lived in Ebor Place in Headingley.
