Zoe Orton

Age: 46

Sex: female

Date: 21 Oct 2019

Place: Gilbert House, McMillan Street, Deptford, London

Zoe Orton was found dead at her flat in McMillan Street, Deptford on Monday 21 October 2019.

Her cause of death was given as being due to compression of the neck and it was said that she had been strangled.

It was thought that she had been killed about 17 days before her body was found, around 4 October 2019.

She was said to have lived a chaotic lifestyle and that although she had lived alone, she had often had other people coming and going from her flat.

Her body was found by the police after concerns were made for her welfare when neighbours saw maggots outside her front door and smelt a foul smell, like a dead animal.

The police said that they found evidence that her flat had been broken into but noted that nothing was thought to have been missing.

Her post-mortem was carried out at Greenwich on 23 October 2019.

The police said that they were trying to piece together her last movements and released CCTV images of her that were captured on 1 October 2019 as she left the Woolwich DLR station at about 4am. She was last seen alive two days later on 3 October 2019 and based on phone records it was thought that she was still alive on 4 October 2019 and in Woolwich Town Centre during the early hours.

She was known to associate with local drinkers around the Deptford and Woolwich areas.

It was also said that drugs gangs had been using her flat as a safe house.

Her ex-boyfriend said that she had come from a middle-class family in Welling but that she had been introduced to drugs when she was 21 and become an addict. She had at one time been a legal secretary.
