The decapitated body of a newly born female child was found under a pile of sand and gravel on Clifton Down by a boy on 13 March 1948.

The medical evidence stated that it was thought that the child had lived for about five minutes.

It was thought that the child's head, which was missing, had been removed with a sharp knife, possibly after death.

An open verdict was returned.
