Phyllis Maude Baker

Phyllis Maude Baker died from an abortion.

Her cause of death was given as being due to septicaema due to abortion.

She died at Taunton Isolation Hospital on Saturday 9 October 1948.

An open verdict was returned. The jury returned a verdict stating that the cause of death was septicaema due to abortion, consistent with the use of a solution self induced, but that there was insufficient evidence to show the exact cause of injury. The foreman of the jury said, 'We are very reluctant to bring in a verdict of felo-de-se and will return an open verdict'.

It was noted that there was medical evidence to show that Phyllis Baker had been warned of the dangers of her actions.

She was the mother of three children.
