Lorraine Bream

Age: 40

Sex: female

Date: 16 Sep 2019

Place: Palmerston Mansions, Tonbridge Street, Portsmouth

Lorraine Bream fell from a balcony at a block of flats on 16 September 2019.

She was found on a low-level roof at Palmerston Mansions in Tonbridge Street, Portsmouth.

Following the discovery of her body the police appealed for anyone that had seen her after 8pm on the Sunday 15 September and when she was found the following morning at 10.50am, Monday 16 September 2019, to come forward.

Palmerston Mansions was along a busy pedestrian shopping precinct, the flat roof that she was found on being to the rear of that area.

The flat that she had fallen from had belonged to a person from whom she would buy drugs. The drug dealer, a 53-year-old man from Southsea, was arrested on suspicion of murder, but the police later said that her death was not suspicious.

At her inquest, the Coroner said that he could not determine whether she slipped or otherwise lost her balance and an open verdict was returned.

Lorraine Bream had lived in Marmion Road, Southsea. She had gone to Palmerston Mansions to buy cocaine.

Before she fell a witness said that he had seen her sitting on a balcony and laughing hysterically with her legs dangling over the side directly above the low-level roof. the witness said, 'She was leaning over the edge and looked very close to falling'.

However, that was the only sighting of her before she was found the following morning at 8am on the roof.

Her post-mortem showed that she had no cocaine in her system or in her possession, although she was found to be three times over the drink-drive limit for alcohol.

The pathologist said that she also had neck wounds that were not typical fall-type injuries. However, he concluded that she died from chest injuries consistent with a fall from height.

The Coroner ruled out suicide and said that there were questions as to how the fall came about, adding, 'Nobody saw or heard an altercation that evening but that doesn't mean that that didn't occur'.

The police said that they had conducted a full and thorough investigation and had discussed the case fully with Lorraine Bream's family but concluded that her death was not suspicious.
