Norman Robert Tiffney died following an assault.
He was assaulted in Restalrig Road South and was taken to Leith Hospital where he later died.
The police said that they thought that he had been struck in the face and knocked to the ground.
A 27-year-old rubber worker was charged with his murder, but the charge was later reduced to assault and nothing more is known.
Norman Tiffney had lived in Piershill Square West.
