Daniel Shaw

Age: 28

Sex: male

Date: 25 Mar 2018

Place: Copland Place, Tile Hill, Coventry

Daniel Shaw was shot dead in Tile Hill, Coventry, on 25 March 2018.

He was shot in the chest at the communal flats at 368 Torrington Avenue where he lived after which he ran off a short distance before collapsing not far away in Copland Place.

His murder was thought to have been linked to the murder of Johnny Robbins who was thought to have been tortured and murdered after he vanished a few days earlier on 21 March 2018.

The police said that they thought that when Johnny Robbins was kidnapped that he was then taken to Daniel Shaw's home where he was tortured and murdered after which his body was disposed of. His body has not been found.

However, the police noted that neither Daniel Shaw nor Johnny Robbins had previously known each other.

A 29-year old man was said to have been suspected in both murders.

The police said, 'We know who committed these murders and why they did it' but added that members of the community who could provide the evidence to prove that were too afraid to come forward'. They added, 'I’m sure these people may think they’ve got away with what they did, but I’d like them to know we’ve continued to piece together a vast amount of information and we do know who committed these murders. However, we still need those who know who was involved in this large and complicated web of criminality and deceit, to give us the information we require to secure charges against them'.

A number of people were arrested in connection with his murder, including a 22 year old man and a 47 year old man but no one was charged.

On 17 October 2018 the police said that it was possible that the man suspected of murdering Daniel Shaw could be dead and he is still classified as missing. The police said that proof-of-life inquiries suggested that the man was either dead or that he had deliberately taken himself 'off the radar'. He had not been seen or heard of since March 2018 and the police noted that they had received information that the man had come to an untimely end.

The police added that the man was known to be part of a gang that was involved in criminal activities, including drugs which was said to have had a grip on the area such that people that had called the police anonymously and told them what had happened were too afraid to provide that intelligence in evidential format. However, the police said that they had been unable to draw any links between the man's gang involvement and Daniel Shaw.

The police added that they thought that a few other people had also been involved in Daniel Shaw's murder, but noted that it wouldn't be more than a handful of other people.

The police appealed for a man that was seen in CCTV footage near to Daniel Shaw's home at the time of the murder to come forward, stating that they were sure that he would have seen or heard something.

The police also appealed for anyone that had seen any activity around 368 Torrington Avenue between 21 March 2018 and 25 March 2018 to come forward.

It was also noted that the wheelie bins were found to be missing from the rear of 368 Torrington Avenue.
