Sol Hemy

Age: 20

Sex: male

Date: 5 Sep 2019

Place: River Itchen, Riverside Park, Southampton

Sol Hemy was found dead in the River Itchen at Riverside Park in Southampton.

His death was described as unexplained. He was said to have drowned.

He was said to have just taken part in a night-time break-in at a cannabis factory with four other men. The four men were later jailed for their part in the break-in, being convicted of conspiracy to commit burglary and possession of a firearm with intent.

It was heard that the raid resulted in an armed confrontation between their group and another gang at the house in which shots were fired.

The police were called out to River Walk on 5 September 2019 at 1am following reports of gunfire being heard. Sol Hemy’s body was later found in the river at 6.30am at Riverside Park.

However, it was not known how Sol Hemy came to end up in the river.

The police later found abandoned sacks of cannabis outside the cannabis factory in River Walk.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of his murder, but later released, with the police saying that there was insufficient evidence to charge them. The men were:

30-year-old man from Southampton, arrested in December 2020.

28-year-old man from Gosport, released without charge in April 2020.

Sol Hemy had been a father of two.
