Kevin Nightingale

Age: 33

Sex: male

Date: 17 Feb 1996

Place: Drake Close, South Shields

Kevin Nightingale was shot dead outside his home in Drake Close, South Shields on 17 February 1996.

His murder was described as a gangland execution.

A number of people were tried for his murder but the case against them was dropped.

He had been a bouncer at the Oz nightclub in South Shields and was shot four times from behind on his doorstep when he returned one night from work after being given a lift home by colleagues. He was dropped off in the street and shot when he got to his doorstep.

Four men were initially tried for conspiracy to murder, but acquitted in May 1997.

The three people that had brought him home were then later charged twice with his murder, once in 2000 and then once again in 2001, but the charges against them were later thrown out due to lack of evidence. The three people later claimed damages against the Northumbria Police for the wrongful accusations and were awarded £25,000 each.

Two of the people that had brought him home, a married couple, were also shot at as they sat in the car that they had brought him home in.

It was later reported that a stolen red Ford Escort car was seen leaving the area at the time of the murder and was later found on fire a few minutes after the shooting.

Kevin Nightingale had been also an amateur boxer and footballer.
