Date: 2 May 1950

Place: 83 Prestury Road, Prestbury, Cheltenham

The body of a newly-born male child was found in a water tank at Prestbury on 2 May 1950.

The body was found by a maintenance fitter with the Hadspheltic Construction Co. who lived in Whaddon Avenue in a water tank in the company’s yard at 83 Prestury Road. He said that access to the yard could be easily obtained by members of the public.

The pathologist that carried out the post mortem examination said that in his opinion the child had had a separate existence and had lived for up to 24 hours and that it had been dead for about seven days at the time of discovery.

An open verdict was returned with the jury saying that there was insufficient evidence to say what the cause of death was.
