Thomas Carlisle

Thomas Carlisle was found injured in the road at Annesley on 10 November 1950 and later died.

He was found by a bus driver lying in the road in the cutting below Annesley Church.

He had lived a 15 Fraser Street, Newstead and was known to have been walking to Annesley at the time. He was two miles from his home.

The pathologist that carried out his post mortem said that his death could have been caused by a violent blow from an individual or by being knocked down by a vehicle in the road and that other injuries that he had could have been caused by him being knocked down.

The police said that they were unable to trace any vehicle that had been involved in the incident and later announced that suspicions of foul play had been ruled out.

The police appealed for anyone that had been driving or walking through Annesley Cutting at approximately 5.50pm on the Friday to come forward.

It was noted that he was found at the darkest spot between two lamps in the road and that it had been raining at the time with a slight mist.

An open verdict was returned.

He was buried at Newstead on 15 November 1950.
