George Francis Talbot Dunne

Age: 43

Sex: male

Date: 9 May 1951

Place: Watergate Street, Chester

George Francis Talbot Dunne was found with a fractured skull at the bottom of some stairs in Watergate Street.

He was of no fixed abode and was described at his inquest as being of a wandering disposition.

It was thought from papers in his possession that he had earlier in the day been at the Chester Cup Day race meetings and had been a tipster and had come to Chester from the south of England.

It was said that George Dunne might have been pushed down the steps or he might have slipped. However, the coroner noted that if there had been a quarrel or an assault that someone would have told the police or people in the neighbourhood.

The coroner then said, 'I propose to leave the verdict open, although everything points to accidental circumstances', and an open verdict was returned.
