James Hay

Age: unknown

Sex: male

Date: 6 Dec 1952

Place: Catlehill Community Centre, Aberdeen

James Hay was found dead in a cul-de-sac with head injuries on the morning of Thursday 4 December 1952.

He had died from a fractured skull.

He was found in a cul-de-sac at the rear of Castlehill Community Centre in Aberdeen.

It was said that it was not known what he had done after 9.30pm on the Wednesday night 3 December 1952.

He was a trawlerman and on the morning of Saturday 6 December 1952 detectives went aboard the trawler Corcyra on which James Hay had been chief engineer and took possession of his belongings.

It was presumed that James Hay had injured himself before he fell over the railing at the top of the steps behind the community centre and the police said that they were convinced that there was no foul play relating to his death. Although they said that their inquiries were still proceeding, they said that they were inclined to the view that he met his death as a result of an accident, noting that his injuries were consistent with him having fallen from the landing of the emergency stairway leading to the community centre.

His funeral took place at Cullen on Monday 8 December 1952.
